In June, LBM Journal introduced its 40 Under 40 awards. Now we’d like to introduce you to the members of the class. Our interviews spotlight the 40 Under 40 members’ LBM experience, thoughts on attracting young people to the industry, and visions for the future.
Andrew Black, Senior Area Operations Manager for New South Construction Supply
How did you become involved in the LBM industry?
As I was researching careers, I became interested in the Manager in Training program that New South Construction Supply had advertised through the Clemson University Career Center. I applied, got the opportunity to lead a branch at a young age, and have been growing with the company since.
What is your favorite part of your job?
I get to work with some spectacular people on a great team!
What advice would you give to companies looking to attract young professionals like yourself?
I’d recommend offering training programs and advertising with colleges and universities within their footprints.
What is your personal mission statement?
Promote, coach, and support my teams to succeed, achieve excellence, and meet their goals & dreams, utilizing my experience and knowledge of previous success and failures, with the utmost focus and priority on the PEOPLE, who ultimately make the business successful.
