MILWAUKEE – Bliffert Lumber & Fuel Co., a family owned and operated company that has been in business in the Milwaukee area since 1904, has been named a 2017 Future 50 company and a Master Mettle, 3rd year winner by the Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce’s Council of Small Business Executives (COSBE).
The Future 50 program, now in its 30th year, recognizes privately-owned companies in the seven-county Milwaukee region that have been in business for at least three years and have shown significant revenue and employment growth.
Bliffert Lumber & Fuel Co., which has expanded since 2004 from two lumber yards and 20 employees to eight locations and 150 employees today, is comprised of traditional industrial yards, new construction yards, and even a neighborhood hardware store.
“We’ve been around for more than a hundred years, and during that span of time so many family-owned businesses like ours have closed their doors for good,” said Eli Bliffert, Vice President, Bliffert Lumber & Fuel Co. “With this in mind I’m honored to once again be part of the Future 50 program. We’ve had the good fortune to not only thrive, but to expand through consolidation with other small companies.”
Bliffert’s growth strategy has enabled them to do business on a number of fronts, from fulfilling industrial contracts to reaching consumers directly through their neighborhood retail hardware store. This mix of offerings has boosted the company’s annual sales from $10 million in 2002 to a projected $70 million in 2017 — the most profitable year in the company’s history.
