After 56 years in business, Collins Supply in Athens, Ala. is closing its doors, the News Courier reports. Co-owner Lakin Collins told the paper that the while the business was in its second generation of family operation, the third generation will not be joining the company. “I’m ready to retire, and there won’t be a third generation because the grandkids are pursuing other careers,” he said.
Plans for Collins Supply began in 1960 when J.T. Collins was in need of a window awning and none were sold in town. He took out a loan of $5,000 and went on to start the company.
