The Mid-Hudson Lumber Dealers Association has honored Arden Dean, Superior Building Supply in Neversink, N.Y., as 2016 Lumber Person of the Year. This award recognizes an individual for significant contributions to the lumber and building materials industry as well as to his or her local community.
Long before he was servicing the builders and contractors in Sullivan County and the surrounding areas at Superior Building Supply in Neversink, NY, Dean was one of them.
After receiving his honorable discharge from the Air Force and earning a computer engineering degree from the University of Nebraska in the early 1970s, Dean went to work in construction. After working on the customer side of the building supply business for a few years, Dean saw the opportunity to “bring modern building materials to Sullivan County.” In 1987, he and his brother Mike launched Superior Building Supply in their hometown of Neversink.
Service, to both his community and his industry, is an important part of Dean’s life. He is a past board member of the Mid-Hudson Lumber Dealers Association and was chairman of the Neversink and Sullivan County Chambers of Commerce. He’s also been a member of his local Elks Lodge and the Tri-Valley Lions Club. Dean has also been politically engaged, serving on the Town of Neversink Republican Committee and the Republican National Committee’s Small Business Action Committee.
Dean will be recognized, along with fellow Lumber Persons of the Year from across the Northeast, at 2017 LBM Expo in Providence, RI on Feb. 16, 2017.
