For the fifth consecutive year, Hancock Lumber has been named a Best Places to Work in Maine, the company announced on its website. Hancock Lumber’s mission is to create a work environment that first and foremost recognizes employees as human beings and ultimately improves the lives of anyone who works at the organization. Culture makes the difference at Hancock Lumber and each employee on the 540-person team works intentionally every day on truly being a best place to work.
“To be recognized as a Best Places to Work in Maine for the fifth year is super exciting. To perform together at this level for half a decade demonstrates our team’s commitment to creating a great work environment for each employee. It takes everyone to create a best place to work—each person is the biggest contributor to his or her own work experience and to the work experience of those who stand or sit beside them. This award is earned by everyone; you can’t delegate the creation of a best place to work,” said Kevin Hancock, a sixth-generation family member and current President.
The awards program was created in 2006 and is a project of the Society for Human Resource Management – Maine State Council (MESHRM) and Best Companies Group. This statewide survey and awards program was designed to identify, recognize and honor the best places of employment in Maine, benefiting the state’s economy, its workforce and businesses. The 2018 Best Places to Work in Maine list is made up of 75 companies in three size categories: small (15-49 U.S. employees), medium (50-249 U.S. employees) and large (250+ U.S. employees).
Wendy Scribner, a Human Resources Director with more than 30 years experience, shared this note with employees,“I feel very proud of Hancock’s dedication to this mission of being a Best Place to Work in Maine, and send a big thank you to our employees who come in every day and work hard to foster a respectful and meaningful work environment. We should all feel really proud of this accolade!”
