NLBMDA president and CEO Jonathan Paine announced Thursday that Laura DeMaria will join the organization effective Monday, May 4. Laura’s primary responsibilities will include serving as a staff liaison to the Manufacturers and services Council as well as playing a lead role in the new MSC Membership, Marketing and Education Sub-Committee.
Laura joined SmithBucklin in 2013, where she has played a critical role in the day-to-day membership services and financial management operations of two associations. She has supported the board of directors of both associations and served as the staff liaison for multiple committees.
Prior to joining SmithBucklin, she worked as an analyst at the US Department of Commerce, Bureau of Industry and Security. During graduate school, Laura held internships with several Washington DC-based nonprofits, including working as a tour guide at the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry museum and as a researcher at the Competitive Enterprise Institute’s Energy and Environment Center, where she supported the Center’s commitment to free enterprise and deregulation.
She holds an undergraduate degree in English from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (2009) and a Master’s in Public Administration/Nonprofit Management from The American University School of Public Affairs (2013). She is a member of the Pi Alpha Alpha National Honor Society for Public Affairs and Administration and of the Washington, DC-based John Carroll Society. She is also actively involved in her church’s young adult group and parish jail ministry.
