Lincoln Lumber adding sawmill in Crockett, Texas

CONROE, Texas — Conroe, Texas-based Lincoln Lumber has announced plans to open a new 1” focused pine sawmill facility in Crockett, Texas, about 45 miles west of Lufkin, where the company will produce lumber for end-users, wholesalers, and distributors across the Southern and Midwestern U.S.

Lincoln Lumber will transition its current complex and real estate, along with the purchase of an adjoining seven acres, for the production of 1×4 and 1×6 lumber. As part of the facility’s transition, the Houston-based commercial construction company KDW will add lay down yards and several auxiliary buildings at the 12-acre site.

Lincoln Lumber’s new Crockett sawmill will be capable of producing approximately 28 million board feet annually of 1×4 and 1×6 and is expected to be operational by the third quarter of 2021. Lincoln plans to continue to purchase raw material in the market as well to augment its production capabilities with the new sawmill, and to keep its planer operations in Jasper, Texas fully stocked.

White Paper: Protect Your Business from Ransomware

Ransomware pirates are using the coronavirus in a variety of malicious campaigns to attack businesses. Don’t fall victim to these tactics.

The addition of Lincoln Lumber’s new Texas facility north of the company’s corporate headquarters comes at a time when the lumber market has reached an all-time high, with supply extremely limited due to elevated demand combined with supply interruptions due to COVID-19 concerns and other market factors.

“We believe very strongly in the 1” market, as evidenced by both the investment in this sawmill and our purchase of King Lumber in Mississippi in late 2019,” says Jim Kelly, president of Lincoln Lumber and its affiliates. “The addition of this asset to our 1” portfolio will allow us to increase volume while really dialing in on the quality of our offerings. It will also provide us with a chance to continue to integrate and control our supply chain much more effectively.”

Kelly adds James Gentry, executive director of the Crockett Economic Development Council, and John Angerstein, city administrator for the City of Crockett, supported Lincoln Lumber by extending utilities and making the infrastructure for the project more affordable.
