Credit will be applied for using the reputation of the actual company but the highjacker will ask for the deliveries to be made to a fake address.
“They’re happy to have it delivered to an apartment building or a mail drop, but something doesn’t add up,” Richardson says.
In some instances, BlueTarp has outed fake applicants with wrongful intentions by simply conducting a Google search of the address or a search of the applicant. “I don’t know how many suspicious transactions we’ve stopped because we did a Google search of the address,” Richardson says.
One particular applicant appeared to check out fine for BlueTarp, but when the company Googled the president and vice president of the company they found that the duo had recently been caught for passing bad checks in their hometown.
“The Internet, for good or for bad, is a powerful tool,” Richardson says.
