The Northeastern Retail Lumber Association has released a video promoting careers in the lumber and building materials industry. The video features appearances by Joe Cecarelli, who does Contractor Sales at Oxford Lumber & Building Materials, Inc. in Oxford, Conn. as well as Mandi Baierlein, Showroom Manager at rk MILES, Inc., in Manchester Center, Vt.
Rita Ferris, president of NRLA, said the video took about three months to produce.
“We feel like the public has a very old-school image about what it’s like to work in the retail lumber industry,” Ferris said. “We want to shine a light on the wonderful opportunities we have and what it’s like to work at a lumberyard and make it a career.”

Ferris said that a committee of young lumber executive members was involved with the production of the video. “We leaned on our younger executive members (retailers under 40) because we’re looking to attract young people to the industry,” she said.
While the recruitment video was a major endeavor, she anticipates more recruitment videos to come, possibly as shorter videos that highlight particular career benefits in the LBM industry.
LBM dealers, organizations and others in the industry are sharing the video on social media. NRLA encourages those in the industry to share it on social media, at job fairs and anywhere they can to promote the industry.
