People Make the Difference
The past decade has welcomed fourthgeneration family members to join the company, including Kate along with Ann’s two sons: Stu and Philip. And with more than 800 years of combined industry experience from knowledgeable employees, Woodson Lumber relies on maintaining relationships with family, team members and customers.
“We are a very loyal group; loyal to our family and to the business and to our communities,” Chapman says. “We see all three as going directly hand-inhand.”
In fact, the company focuses heavily on educating all team members—especially on safety practices—and also invests time and resources back into the community. And it makes a difference.
When Woodson Lumber held its 100- year anniversary celebration this year, dangerous weather conditions prevented customers from attending. Yet, the amount of people who battled through icy roads and bone-chilling temperatures was overwhelming and heartwarming, Chapman says.
“I was humbled and appreciative of their response,” Chapman adds. “I thank the people who work in our communities that help foster that sense of closeness and good relationships.”
Woodson Lumber also actively maintains community relationships with its involvement in special events, support in local builders associations and through social media and advertising. Kate explains that an ongoing challenge exists in trying to connect with five generations of customers though media; yet, being a recognizable name for the community continues to drive growth.
