From humble roots to the nation’s largest independent building materials company, 84 Lumber continues to do things their own way
84 Lumber announced that it is commemorating its 60th Anniversary with internal celebrations in its 250+ stores and Team Headquarters.
84 Lumber is capping a milestone year that saw the company achieve its best first quarter in more than a decade. Eight years after staring down bankruptcy during the housing market crash, 84 Lumber is leaner, flexible and more diversified than ever before. This year, the company announced plans to open dozens of new stores, including an expansion into the western United States. They also closed on a new $350 million Senior Secured Term Loan B that is being used to enhance future product and service capabilities.
This comes on the heels of brand new initiatives like Tiny Living by 84 Lumber, a new line of portable tiny homes that has garnered international recognition for the company.
The media and industry have also recognized 84 Lumber’s preeminent position in the market. Forbes magazine recently ranked 84 Lumber #167 on its 2016 list of America’s Best Mid-Sized Employers. Hardware + Building Supply Dealer recently named 84 Lumber their #11 home improvement retailer. And D.R. Horton honored 84 Lumber with its 2016 Distributor of the Year Award. Locally, 84 Lumber is one of the Pittsburgh region’s crown jewels, ranking #5 on the Pittsburgh Business Times’ top Woman-Owned Business list.
“For 60 years, we’ve been fiercely independent. That’s given us the ability to adapt – to the market, to our customers and to our communities,” said Maggie Hardy Magerko, President & Owner of 84 Lumber. “We’re much more than a lumber company, and we’re thrilled to see what we can do over the next 60 years.”
