Storm Doors Protect and Enhance Entryways

A durable storm door is a smart investment for your customer–storm doors prevent drafts, provide an extra layer of insulation, protect entry doors from the elements, and offer outdoor visibility for homes with solid entry doors.

ProVia storm doors are manufactured in Sugarcreek, OH, to the highest standards in the residential market. Features like reinforced kick panels, multi-hollow construction, aluminum walls up to 20% thicker than industry standard, and corrosion-resistant gussets in the outside corners ensure solid structural integrity and increased strength. ProVia offers a multitude of options across its five storm door brands: custom heights up to 8 feet, single and French door configurations, and styles with retractable screens, removable screens, self-storing screens, and glass inserts.

While storm doors primarily serve the purpose of protection, curb appeal and comfort are just as important to homeowners. ProVia storm door options include full, half, and three-quarter view styles, fiberglass or stainless-steel screen material, bottom sweeps to eliminate drafts, smooth-functioning closers, and a wide palette of attractive, long-lasting paint colors.

ProVia’s storm doors are painted on a computer-controlled paint line, ensuring professional quality every time. Paint is electrostatically applied with a vertical hydraulic reciprocator using a turbo disc that atomizes the paint particles for better coverage of contoured extrusions. Our durable, oven-baked polyester finishes are backed by a Lifetime Warranty for lasting beauty and minimal maintenance.

Storm Door Glass Options

Let’s discuss storm door glass for a moment. Low-e (low emissivity) glass is known to increase energy efficiency by incorporating a thin coating that reduces the infrared and ultraviolet light coming through the glass and can prevent the fading of items inside a home. In the wintertime, low-e glass lets radiant heat pass through but doesn’t allow it to come back out, helping to retain heat within a home; in summer, it inhibits the amount of heat passing through.

Depending on the circumstance, the heat that is trapped between a low-e storm door and an entry door may cause problems if not properly ventilated: warping the glass trim on the entry door; warping or bowing the entire entry door; and freezing of the storm door when frigid temperatures cause condensation to form as cold air hits trapped hot air. Front door areas with high sun exposure are not ideally suited for low-e door glass.

For this reason, ProVia recommends that customers consider other options for increasing energy efficiency in their entryway. ProVia fiberglass and steel entry doors are ENERGY STAR®-certified, and standard, decorative, privacy, and art door glass options include our ComforTech™ Warm Edge Glazing System to measurably improve thermal performance.

ProVia storm doors feature tempered glass for safety, and customers can specify a bronze, green, gray, or blue tint that minimizes UV and heat infiltration, preventing the negative issues low-e glass can cause. Other options for storm doors include Gluechip and Obscure Pebble privacy glass, beveled glass, and brass and zinc inlay with some beveled glass designs.
