TAL Holdings acquires Gerretsen Building Supply

Vancouver, Wash.— TAL Holdings LLC, an eight-store chain of retail building material centers in Oregon and Washington, has announced an agreement in principle to acquire Gerretsen Building Supply Co. in Roseburg, Oregon.

An all-employee meeting was held to announce the acquisition by TAL to the Gerretsen employees. After a transition period, Gerretsen will begin operations as part of the TAL family of companies on Feb. 4.

M. David Dittmer, CEO of TAL Holdings stated, “This acquisition is an excellent addition to our company. The Roseburg market fits into our growth strategy. Gerretsen is the top supplier of building materials in the market area they serve. Because of their very strong brand recognition, they will continue to operate under the name of Gerretsen Building Supply. The Roseburg community is similar to other markets served by TAL Holdings. Gerretsen is a great addition to our organization. We are anxious to expand our footprint into this growing market.”

Gerretsen was founded in 1923 by Joe Denn and William Gerretsen. The company is still family owned and operated by descendants of Mr. William Gerretsen. Gerretsen was founded on the same basic business values as TAL Holdings – building honest, fair and ethical relationships with our customers. Gerretsen, like the TAL companies, operates full-service lumberyards, serving the professional builder as well as the retail customer. “We are very excited to join forces with Gerretsen,” said Dittmer.

“Gerretsen has a strong, experienced employee group. Their years of experience in our industry make their location the place to go for building solutions,” said Dittmer.

TAL Holdings has three operating divisions: Tum-A-Lum Lumber, founded in 1906, serving the Hood River, The Dalles, and Pendleton markets in Oregon; Marson and Marson Lumber, founded in 1955, serving the Leavenworth, Wenatchee, Chelan and Cle Elum markets of Washington; and Browne’s Home Center, founded in 1947, serving the San Juan Islands of Washington. All three divisions provide contractors and homeowners with a wide assortment of building material products and services.
