The West Coast Lumber & Building Material Association (WCLBMA) honored three of its members at the recent annual convention of the organization.
Honored as “Associate of the Year” was Glenda DeFrange, owner and president of Straight Line Transport, a Huntington Beach, Calif. trucking and freight brokerage firm. DeFrange currently serves on the board of directors of the association and has been a member for more than ten years. In making the presentation, 2018 association President Victor Fresca, Dixieline Lumber and Home Centers, said she is always a part of every WCLBMA event and an active participant in the organization. He noted she began the business 16 years ago with no clients and no employees and today the firm brokers freight in all 48 lower states with a substantial staff.
Selected for the “President’s Award” was Augie Venezia, President of Fairfax Lumber & Hardware, Fairfax, Calif. In making this award Fresca said that Augie has been a member of the board of directors as government affairs chair for more than ten years, served as association president in 2013, and continues in his role watching regulatory and legislative issue for the lumber, hardware and building materials industry. Venezia is also active in number professional and civic organizations in his community as well. His firm has been a member of the WCLBMA since 1972.
Honored with the association’s infrequent “Lifetime Achievement Award” was WCLBMA Executive Director Ken Dunham. Dunham has been executive director of the regional lumber and building materials association since 2006. In making the presentation, Fresca noted Dunham’s extensive involvement in regulatory and government affairs over the years and with other organizations and states in prior years. He said Dunham manages the association’s communications and publications, membership development and well as overseeing the association staff. Dunham has worked previously in reporting and television news, political management, advertising and public relations as well as management of other business trade organizations in Montana, Washington, Illinois and California.
The West Coast Lumber & Building Material Association (WCLBMA) is one of the largest lumber and building material trade associations in the country, and has been active in California and adjacent states since the early 1900s. The organization celebrated its official 100th anniversary in 2017. The association provides legislative and regulatory representation, education and training programs, professional development, communications and industry information, benefit programs, and industry networking and social events. The organization is also affiliated with the National Lumber & Building Material Dealers Association.
