Wilson Lumber Company celebrated Women in Construction week with a luncheon on March 4th. With the theme “Together We Rise”, employees and customers were treated to lunch by Mason Dixon Bistro and enjoyed a keynote address from Sara Beth Wilcox of Brasfield and Gorrie.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, women numbered 11.5% of the entire U.S. construction workforce in 2024. Alabama is one of seven states in the South, where that number continues to grow. At Wilson Lumber Company the female workforce is well above the national average, accounting for a remarkable 27% female demographic.
Construction roles for women vary far beyond the work site. In addition to production, transportation, and maintenance, many opportunities for women in construction include professional roles in sales, administration, and management. Wilson Lumber Company is supported by women in various roles across the organization, including the production of vertical products like windows, doors, trim, and trusses, as well as administrative, operations, and leadership positions.
